Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Supply of Natural Gas.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

250 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline (1) the progress that has been made in providing natural gas to estates in Tallaght, Dublin 24, (2) the estates in which works are underway, (3) when these will be completed and (4) when supply will be available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

Mervyn Taylor

Ceist:

251 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Energy if there are plans to provide natural gas to any additional estates in Tallaght, Dublin 24; if, in view of the strong demand from all estates in the Tallaght area, he will indicate the likely developments in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I intend to take Questions Nos. 250 and 251 together.

Three estates in Tallaght were connected to the gas supply in 1991. These are Redwood Estate, Bancroft Estate and Belgard Heights.

Of the 17 estates in Tallaght included in the 1992 connection programme, gas mains are currently being installed in two (Parkhill Estate and Tamarisk Estate) and supply will be available there in February-March 1992. A sales campaign is currently underway in a further ten estates: Carrigmore Estate, Aylesbury; Heatherview Estate, Aylesbury; Kiltipper Estate, Aylesbury; Parkwood Estate, Aylesbury; Pineview Estate, Aylesbury; Seskin View/New Bawn, Old Bawn; Bawnville, Old Bawn; Tymon Estate, Old Bawn; Old Bawn/Watermill, Old Bawn and Kingswood View.
These estates will be connected to the gas network once sufficient numbers of householders agree to changeover to natural gas central heating. If the necessary market penetration is achieved, the gas supply will be installed in the period March to April 1992.
The remaining five estates included in phase I of the 1992 programme are: Kingswood Heights, Millbrook Lawns, St. Maelruan's Park, Watergate Estate, and Forrest Estate. A sale campaign will be carried out on these estates within the next two and a half months. If the sale campaign is successful the supply will become available in the period May-June 1992.
Bord Gáis Éireann will be carrying out further surveys in Tallaght with a view to including other estates from the area in phase II of the 1992 connection programme.

252 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Energy if there are plans to provide natural gas to any additional estates in Clondalkin, County Dublin; if, in view of the strong demand from all estates in the Clondalkin area, he will indicate the likely developments in this regard; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

253 Mr. Taylor asked the Minister for Energy if he will outline the progress that has been made in providing natural gas to estates in Clondalkin, County Dublin; if he will give details of (1) the estates in which works are underway, (2) when the same will be completed and (3) when the supply will be available; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I intend to take Questions Nos. 252 and 253 together.

Two estates in Clondalkin were connected to the gas supply in 1991. These are Palmerstown Woods and Alpine Heights. A sales campaign will commence on a further ten estates within the next two and a half months. These estates are: Ashwood, Cherrywood, Greenpark (Oak and Willows), James Connolly, Lealand, Michael Collins Park, Oak-wood Grove, Oatfield, St. John's Meadows and Wheatfields.
Only those estates where sufficient numbers of houeholders agree to changeover to natural gas central heating will be connected to the gas network. Once the necessary market penetration is achieved, the gas supply will be installed in the period May to June, 1992.
Bord Gáis Éireann will be carrying out further surveys in Clondalkin with a view to including other estates from the area in phase II of the 1992 connection programme.
