Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Naas (Kildare) New Fire Station.

Bernard J. Durkan

Ceist:

332 Mr. Durkan asked the Minister for the Environment if he will outline (a) the number and (b) the location of sites submitted by Kildare County Council to his Department for the provision of a new fire station at Naas, County Kildare; if any of these sites are suitable; if not, if he will outline (1) the reasons they are not, (2) the current position regarding the provision of the new fire station as a result of these site difficulties and (3) the proposals he has to resolve the outstanding difficulties; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I refer to the reply of 16 October, 1991 which sets out the current position. My Department regards the location of the proposed site which is the only one put forward in recent years as unsuitable because of its distance from the town centre, poor road access, greater distance from the main industrial areas and from the hospital than the present station, and more difficult access to the motorway.
