Vol. 415 No. 1

Written Answers. - Dublin 15 Post-Primary Needs.

Seán Ryan

Ceist:

450 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education if his attention has been drawn to the urgent need for a second level school at Castleknock, Dublin 15; and if, in view of the feelings of the parents in the area, he will adhere to the commitment given by his predecessor to meet with the Castleknock Second Level School Action Group to discuss this important matter.

Ceist:

451 Mr. Ryan asked the Minister for Education if he has received the report on the second level education needs of Dublin 15 that was commissioned by his predecessor from a person (details supplied); when he proposes to publish the report; and when he expects to announce a decision on the matter.

I propose taking Questions Nos. 450 and 451 together.

As you are aware, the availability of post-primary school places for pupils from the Castleknock/Hartstown/ Dunboyne areas has been under continuing review in my Department in the light of the most up-to-date data available on demographic trends, housing developments and primary school enrolments. Following meetings with parent representatives my predecessor decided in August last to engage consultants to assist my Department in an analysis of future post-primary needs in the Hartstown/ Dunboyne/Castleknock areas.

The advice of the consultants has been received and is being considered in my Department. It is not intended to publish a report on the matter.

I hope to be in a position to take a decision on the future provision of post-primary education in the areas in question in the near future.

I will contact the interested parties at a later date regarding a meeting, should this prove necessary.
