Vol. 415 No. 4

Written Answers. - Genetic Counselling Service.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

174 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Health if she will outline her detailed proposals for a genetic counselling service; and if she will make a statement on the matter.

A major medical genetics centre will be located in Our Lady's Hospital for sick children in Crumlin. The cost is estimated to be £250,000 in 1992 and will include the recruitment of specialist consultants, laboratory and other support staff and a specialist genetic counselling service which will be non-directive in its nature.

Discussions will now begin with the hospital to agree the detailed arrangements for the service which I am anxious to see established as soon as possible.
