Vol. 417 No. 1

Written Answers. - Collooney/Ballisodare (Sligo) Bypass.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

238 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Environment if, despite the long hold up of a year in his Department, in view of the confirmation and approval of the environmental impact statement for the Collooney-Ballisodare bypass on the N4 in County Sligo it will still be possible to meet the time schedule of the operations programme for a start of works in 1992.

Following the certification of the proposed Collooney/Sligo road under the Local Government (Planning and Development) Regulations, 1990, it is now a matter for the local authority to complete the design of the scheme and proceed with land acquisition. I understand that the authority are finalising the preparation of a compulsory purchase order for the acquisition of the necessary land and expect to submit it to me in April, 1992. Because of my quasi-judicial function in the determination of compulsory purchase orders, it would be inappropriate for me to comment further about the timing of the scheme at this stage.
