Vol. 417 No. 5

Written Answers. - Royal Canal Project.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

129 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Finance if he will outline the details of all redevelopment works to be carried out on the Dublin city stretch of the Royal Canal by the Office of Public Works during 1992.

The main focus of attention for 1992, in so far as the Dublin city stretches of the Royal Canal are concerned, will be on restoration of navigation to the River Liffey.

The final full set of lock gates needed for the city stretches are now being installed at the North Strand. The remaining dredging work, between Binn's Bridge, Drumcondra and North Wall Quay, will be carried out during the summer.

Agreement has been reached between the Office of Public Works and Iarnrod Éireann to replace the railway culvert on the canal, just east of the North Strand, with a new swing bridge. It is hoped to have this bridge installed before the end of this year.
