William Cotter

Ceist:

102 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education if his Department is in the course of preparation of tender documents for the proposed national school in the parish of Killany, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The preparation of tender documents for the proposed new school at Killany, Carrickmacross, County Monaghan is in hand. These documents will be completed at the earliest possible date, when the question of the invitation to tenders will be considered in the context of the available capital and ongoing commitments.

Ceist:

103 Mr. Cotter asked the Minister for Education if he will outline the number of primary schools in County Monaghan which have applied for sanction to appoint a remedial teacher from August 1992; the number of teachers sanctioned; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

My Department have received applications for remedial teachers from 39 schools in County Monaghan.

As I indicated to the House on 23 June last, the agreement reached with concerned interests under the Programme for Economic and Social Progress provided that teacher posts in 1992 will be be used to reduce larger class sizes by improvement of the teacher appointment schedule and, therefore, does not provide for the appointment of remedial teachers in September, 1992.

However, additional posts coming on stream in 1993 will allow of the provision of special posts, including those for remedial teachers.
