Vol. 424 No. 8

Adjournment Debate Matters.

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given to me under Standing Order 20 (3) (a) and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy M. Kitt — the question of the exemption from the study of Irish of children where some of their primary education was received outside Ireland; (2) Deputy Jim Higgins — the need for the Minister for Education to change the guidelines for the higher education grants scheme, 1992, in order to make allowance for interests paid on loans obtained for pollution control, farm buildings, wages, etc.; (3) Deputy Allen — the proposed downgrading of the Mallow Road Garda station in Cork and if the Minister for Justice will ensure that gardaí at present serving there will continue to operate from that station and will not be asked to report to Watercourse Road Garda station for duty and if he will increase Garda numbers in Cork city; (4) Deputy Cotter — the proposals, if any, to downgrade Monaghan General Hospital.

I have selected for discussion the matters raised by Deputies Allen, M. Kitt and J. Higgins.
