The information requested by the Deputy is not available for the years 1921 and 1922. The nearest year for which data are available is 1926. The Census of Population results for that year indicate that the total number of persons 12 years of age and over at work was 1,223,014. Of this 648,575 persons, or 53 per cent, were engaged in agriculture.
The value of gross agricultural output for the year 1926-27 was estimated at £64,757,000. This figure was based on the valuation at agricultural fair and market prices of that portion of total production which was sold off farms or consumed in farm households adjusted for any increase or decrease in end of year stocks held on farms.
