117 Mr. Bell asked the Minister for the Environment the situation regarding insurance cover for local authority tenants who have bought their houses through the tenant purchase scheme; whether insurance cover is included in the weekly/monthly payments; if the house becomes fully paid up in the event of a spouse dying; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The administration of tenant purchase schemes is a matter for individual local authorities. I understand that mortgage protection insurance has been offered to purchasers of local authority dwellings by a number of authorities.
