Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - County Tipperary Road Upgrading.

Theresa Ahearn

Ceist:

147 Mrs. T. Ahearn asked the Minister for the Environment if he will provide the necessary funding for the upgrading of the Cashel/Tipperary road, which is a traffic hazard due to a lack of sight distance at several points on the roadway; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The funding of improvement works on national secondary roads has to be considered in the context of the limited funds available for such works and the competing demands for these funds countrywide. Over the years, grants have been provided to Tipperary South Riding County Council for various pavement, widening and visability improvement works on the N74 between Cashel and Tipperary. The possibility of making a further grant for improvement works on the route is being considered in the determination of the 1993 road grants which will shortly be notified to local authorities.
