Vol. 427 No. 6

Written Answers. - Ballybrack (Dublin) Club Funding.

Eamon Gilmore

Ceist:

302 Mr. Gilmore asked the Minister for Education if she has received a submission from Ballybrack Boys' Football Club for funding from the national lottery; if her attention has been drawn to the great work which this club does for sport and for young people in the Ballybrack area of County Dublin; if her attention has further been drawn to the extraordinary voluntary efforts of the clubs' members to raise funds and keep the club; and if she will make available a grant from national lottery funds to assist the club in their work.

I am aware of the excellent work which is being carried out by Ballybrack Boys Football Club. No proposals for funding have been received from the Club.

Grants to assist with the running costs of sports clubs at local level are allocated by each Vocational Education Committee from funds which are provided annually by my Department for youth and sport activities at local level.

Accordingly, Ballybrack Boys' Football Club should contact Dún Laoghaire Vocational Education Committee to ascertain the position regarding the availability of funds.

As all the funds available under my Department's multi-annual programme for the provision of sports facilities at regional and local level are fully committed to existing projects it would not be possible to provide funding for any project of a capital nature.
The capital grant scheme for the provision of recreational facilities which was administered by my Department was amalgamated in 1990 with the amenity grant scheme administered by the Department of the Environment and the local authorities, who are now responsible for processing all such applications.
