Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Manufacturing Industry Investment.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

118 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the total value of investment in the manufacturing industry in Ireland in the year 1992; and the targeted achievement for 1993.

The official source for the information sought by the Deputy is the Central Statistics Office, but I am informed by the Office that the information is not yet available for 1992.

However, for the Deputy's information, I understand from the IDA that the total value of investment in manufacturing industry grant aided by the IDA in 1992 was £284,772,906. The figure would be considerably less than the total value of investment in manufacturing industry overall.

IDA operates to targets for first-time jobs, rather than targets in relation to investment; the level of IDA investment in individual projects, and the total investment in each case, would thus vary very substantially, depending on the assistance package negotiated in individual cases, whether the IDA's assistance was related to fixed asset investment, employment grants, equity stakes and so on.
