Vol. 428 No. 5

Written Answers. - Land Erosion.

Edward Nealon

Ceist:

141 Mr. Nealon asked the Minister for the Marine if his attention has been drawn to the sea erosion of fertile arable land (details supplied), the fact that this erosion is a continuous process because of the nature of the land and the lack of any sort of defensive walls or stones, and the fact that because of the relatively calm character of the bay in this area building suitable defences to stop the erosion would be a relatively simple and inexpensive process; if he will provide funding so that the necessary work can be done through the Sligo County Council or some other appropriate body; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

There are no funds available at the moment which could be allocated for the works referred to by the Deputy. The total allocation for 1993 comes to £200,000. This has already been earmarked for ongoing projects.
