Vol. 430 No. 2

Written Answers. - East Meath Regional Water Supply.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

172 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the requirement of £3 million for east Meath regional water supply phase VI in order to restore a regular supply of water to the southern end of the scheme at Dunshaughlin, County Meath which has been without water for most of this winter and to the acute situation, which will exist in the summer months, requiring an immediate injection of £3 million for the provision of a new trunk main from Staleen to Kilmoon, a new reservoir at Windmindhill and small improvements to pumps on other sections of the main; and if he will confirm that this matter is receiving urgent attention and that the daily suffering of the people of Dunshaughlin who depend on the east Meath water supply is recognised, that the seriousness of the situation is understood and that the file is being dealt with as a matter of urgency.

Meath County Council have recently submitted initial preliminary proposals for a water supply scheme to serve the east Meath area, including Dunshaughlin. As the proposals are at an early stage of planning, the question of providing funds does not arise at this time. A decision on the preliminary proposals will be made shortly.
