Vol. 433 No. 2

Written Answers. - Bord Fáilte Marketing Budget.

Frank Crowley

Ceist:

21 Mr. Crowley asked the Minister for Tourism and Trade if an analysis has been carried out on the impact of the reduced tourist promotion budget at the marketplace from £11.7 million in 1992 to £10.2 million in 1993; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

The grant-in-aid to Bord Fáilte for 1993 is £21.8 million and represents an increase on the 1992 level. It is a matter for the board to decide on spending priorities within the overall allocation including deciding the proportion of the annual Exchequer grant-in-aid which is to be dedicated to activities in overseas markets as opposed to marketing from headquarters in Dublin.

I might remind the Deputy that the board's overall 1993 marketing budget is also derived from other sources including the Operational Programme for Tourism, INTERREG and the International Fund for Ireland. Furthermore it is estimated that these and other sources will generate £8 million approximately for marketing by Bord Fáilte in 1993 in addition to the grant-in-aid.
