Vol. 434 No. 2

Written Answers. - Coast and Cliff Rescue Service.

P. J. Sheehan

Ceist:

256 Mr. Sheehan asked the Minister for the Marine if he will favourably consider the application from the Goleen Coast and Cliff Rescue Service, County Cork, for finance to purchase a semi-rigid inflatable craft for the purpose of rescue work at sea.

The Coast and Cliff Rescue Service of which the Goleen unit is a part, is a voluntary shore based rescue organisation under the aegis of the Irish Marine Emergency Service of the Department of the Marine. There are 50 CCRS units around the coast. Over the past number of years, a major reorganisation and development programme for the Coast and Cliff Rescue Service has been undertaken. At the commencement of each year, it is decided how best to achieve the maximum cost effective benefits for the service as a whole within the limited resources available. There are no plans to purchase boats for the service during 1993.
