Vol. 436 No. 7

Written Answers. - Pensions Board Report.

Richard Bruton

Ceist:

113 Mr. R. Bruton asked the Minister for Social Welfare the date on which the Pensions Board was first asked to assess the equity of the present contribution conditions for contributory pensions.

The National Pensions Board was appointed in 1986.

The board have so far submitted four reports, covering:

—Regulation of Occupational Pension Schemes;

—the Extension of Social Insurance to the Self-Employed;

—the Tax Treatment of Occupational Pension Schemes;

—Equal Treatment for Men and Women in Occupational Pension Schemes.

The board are currently preparing their final report on the development of a national pensions system. The contribution conditions for contributory pensions will be addressed in the context of that report.

I expect to receive this report very shortly and the matter will be considered further in the light of the recommendations contained therein.
