Vol. 437 No. 4

Written Answers. - Bog Development Grants.

Robert Molloy

Ceist:

145 Mr. Molloy asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications if he will give details of the proposed expenditure of £200,000 on private bog development grants as provided for in the 1994 Capital Estimates.

The allocation of £200,000 in the Capital Estimates for 1994 is to enable my Department to provide funds to Bord na Móna to allow grants to be paid to approved applicants under the private bog development grant scheme.

Following the termination of the scheme in 1987, moneys were provided in the years 1988 to 1992 inclusive to allow previously approved grants to be paid when the associated works were completed. For a number of reasons, including poor weather conditions, not all works approved for grant assistance have been completed in a number of cases. The allocation of £200,000 in 1994 is required to enable the discharge of grant obligations outstanding at present.
