Ceist:50 Mr. J. O'Keeffe asked the Minister for Health whether he has any proposals for a more cost-effective health service; and if he will make a statement on the matter.

I will be publishing a strategy for the health services early in 1994 which will develop in more detail my objectives for the services including measures to improve the cost efficiency and in particular, the effectiveness of the services. I propose to build on the significant body of work already undertaken to improve value for money and to develop better measures of output, particularly in relation to acute hospital activity.
