Vol. 441 No. 7

Written Answers. - Ordnance Survey/Land Registry Offices.

Seymour Crawford

Ceist:

15 Mr. Crawford asked the Minister for Finance the amount of extra money that the Ordnance Survey office and the Land Registry office have received over the past two years in relation to the provision of maps for area aid purposes as a result of the CAP reform proposals.

As separate accounts are not kept in respect of sales of maps for CAP reform proposals it is not possible to give an exact figure for extra revenue in the Ordnance Survey. However, it is estimated that additional revenue in the order of £3.5 million was received by the Ordnance Survey office.

Receipts by way of Land Registry fees are not appropriated in aid of the Land Registry and Registry of Deeds Vote but are remitted to the Exchequer as extra-Exchequer receipts. The total fee receipts in 1993 were £12.708 million and the total estimated receipts for 1994 are £12.6 million. No breakdown of the Land Registry fees, distinguishing between receipts for the different items of service provided, appears in the Estimates or in the Finance Accounts. The Land Registry cannot with any certainty identify which applications to it are seeking copy file plan maps for purposes of area-aid applications or which are for other purposes. The best estimate is that 30,000 applications in 1993 were in respect of maps for the area-aid applications and 30,000 to 35,000 of 1994 applications will be to obtain maps to accompany such applications. On the basis of the foregoing estimated figures, the estimated fee receipts would be £270,000 in 1993 and £325,000 in 1994.
