Vol. 442 No. 3

Written Answers. - Alzheimer's Disease Sufferers.

Desmond J. O'Malley

Ceist:

193 Mr. O'Malley asked the Minister for Health if his attention has been drawn to the fact that there are no facilities in Limerick or in the mid-west region for persons suffering from alzheimer's disease; and if he will make the necessary funding available to enable a unit which has been prepared for sufferers of alzheimers at St. Camillus Hospital, Limerick to be opened.

Funding is being made available this year to the Mid-Western Health Board to provide specialist services for the elderly mentally ill and infirm in Limerick and to commission a facility in St. Camillus' Hospital which will cater for confused elderly men. It is hoped that this service will be in operation before the end of the year or early next year.
