Vol. 444 No. 1

Written Answers. - Knocknacarra (Galway) Western Approach Road.

Pádraic McCormack

Ceist:

17 Mr. McCormack asked the Minister for the Environment the present position regarding the provision of funding for the western approach road, Knocknacarra, Galway, as this is a much needed road development on the west side of Galway city.

The planning, construction and financing of this project is the responsibility of Galway Corporation. It would be open to the Corporation to use the discretionary grants provided annually by my Department to supplement expenditure from their own resources on such works. The project could, alternatively be put forward by Galway Corporation for consideration under the EU co-financed scheme of grants for improvement works on non-national roads which are important to employment and economic activity. Local authorities will be invited in the autumn to submit applications in respect of such grants for 1995.
