Vol. 444 No. 6

Social Security Agreement with Quebec: Motion.

I move:

That Dáil Éireann approves the terms of the Understanding on Social Security between Ireland and Quebec which was signed in Quebec on 6 October 1993, and which was laid before the House on 21 June 1994.

Are there similar agreements with other Canadian provinces?

No, only with Quebec. There is an agreement with Canada as a whole, but it is necessary to have a separate one with Quebec for administrative reasons.

What protections will this add to those already enjoyed under the Canadian agreement?

The agreement covers people governed by the administration of the province of Quebec and is not necessary in any other province.

Question put and agreed to.
