Vol. 444 No. 7

Written Answers. - Dunmore Road (Waterford) Traffic Congestion.

Austin Deasy

Ceist:

54 Mr. Deasy asked the Minister for the Environment the proposals, if any, his Department has to ease the traffic congestion on the Dunmore Road, Waterford.

Dunmore Road in Waterford City (R683) is a non-national road, responsibility for the improvement and maintenance of which is a matter for Waterford Corporation using its own resources, supplemented by the discretionary grants allocated by my Department to the corporation. The allocation to the corporation in 1994 amounts to £300,000.

Under the new EU co-financed scheme of specific improvement grants for non-national roads, an additional grant allocation of £140,000 was notified on 12 May 1994 to Waterford Corporation. While the road referred to was not one of the projects selected for funding under this scheme in 1994, it will be open to the corporation to consider whether to apply for funding in 1995 for this road and the proposed outer ring road, taking into account the conditions governing the scheme.
