Vol. 445 No. 8

Written Answers. - Funding Allocation to GAA.

Mary Flaherty

Ceist:

15 Miss Flaherty asked the Minister for Education in view of the £5 million funding allocation to the GAA for the development of Croke Park, if she will ensure that the GAA is required to spend adequately on traffic, security and cleaning measures in adjacent communities. [18/94]

The grant of £5 million in respect of the Croke Park development, which is being administered under my Department's major sports facilites programme, is subject to the normal terms and conditions applicable to all Exchequer funded capital projects including the requirement that planning permission be obtained.

I am aware that the planning permission granted by Dublin Corporation outlines in great detail the conditions which have to be met by Cumann Luthchleas Gael in the interests of residential amenity, safety, the avoidance of traffic hazards and other environmental conditions.

While the implementation of these planning conditions is a matter between Cumann Luthchleas Gael and Dublin Corporation, I have been assured by Cumann Luthchleas Gael that they are complying fully with all of the conditions laid down.
