Noel Ahern

Ceist:

241 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment when the Casual Trading Bill will be reintroduced in Dáil Éireann; and if he will include provisions to outlaw the sale and advertising for sale of motor vehicles on the public roadway. [1352/95]

Noel Ahern

Ceist:

242 Mr. N. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if he will introduce regulations to prevent the sale and advertising for sale of motor vehicles on the public road. [1355/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 241 and 242 together.

The Casual Trading Bill is currently before the Select Committee on Enterprise and Economic Strategy and it is my hope to proceed with it as soon as possible.

The Bill provides for the devolution of the licensing function from the Minister for Enterprise and Employment to the local authorities and enhances their powers to administer and regulate casual trading in their functional areas.

The sale of motor vehicles by casual traders is not exempt from the provisions of the Bill. Legislative controls in relation to advertising and sale of goods, including motor vehicles, are contained in the Consumer Information Act, 1978, the Sale of Goods and Supply of Services Act, 1980, and the Misleading Advertising Regulations, 1988.
