Vol. 447 No. 11

Written Answers. - Unestablished Civil Servants.

Bertie Ahern

Ceist:

112 Mr. B. Ahern asked the Minister for the Environment the names of all unestablished civil servants appointed since 15 December 1994, including programme managers, special advisers and other staff; and the salaries, duties and terms of appointment of these appointees. [1465/95]

I have a special adviser, Dr. Tim Collins, and a programme manager, Ms Anne Byrne, each of whom is paid a salary of £42,894 per annum. Ms Frances Kelly is employed as my personal assistant while Ms Anne Ferris is personal assistant to Minister of State, Deputy Liz McManus. The salary for Ms Kelly is £22,258 per annum while the salary for Ms Ferris is £238.48 per week plus an allowance of £23.85 per week. I have a personal secretary, Ms Marian Doyle, employed on a salary of £308.44 per week with an allowance of £16.28 per week.

Minister of State Deputy Liz McManus has employed two civilian drivers, Mr. Sean Galligan and Ms Brigid O'Brien, at the standard salary for civilian drivers of £247.74 per week.

The primary role of my adviser is to provide advice to me on policy matters. My programme manager assists me in managing and co-ordinating the achievement of relevant objectives in the Programme for a Government of Renewal. Both my personal assistant and my personal secretary and also Minister of State Deputy Liz McManus' personal assistant are responsible for the efficient running of our respective constituency offices.

All of the above staff are employed on temporary contracts. Their appointments will terminate not later than the date on which I cease to hold office, in the case of the staff employed by me, and not later than the date Minister of State Deputy Liz McManus ceases to hold office in the case of the staff employed by her.
