Vol. 449 No. 6

Written Answers. - Irish Steel Production Targets.

Mary O'Rourke

Ceist:

79 Mrs. O'Rourke asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the monthly production targets which Irish Steel has set itself; the production levels which have been reached in each month; and the financial implications of these results. [4192/95]

The following table sets out the production targets and levels achieved by Irish Steel for the five month period October 1994 to February 1995:

October 1994toFebruary 1995

Finished Steel

Actual

Budget

October

23,353

22,821

November

25,495

25,721

December

22,352

24,823

January

13,666

16,685

February(up to 21st)

23,300

23,800

During the above five month period, production of finished steel was 5 per cent less than budget. This has resulted in a negative contribution to profitability of approximately £200,000. The company expects the shortfall to be made up by the end of the financial year 30 June 1995.
