136 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has for the establishment of a parole board to ensure that prisoners are discharged in an orderly fashion, rather than on an ad hoc basis as at present. [7977/95]

138 Kathleen Lynch asked the Minister for Justice the proposals, if any, she has to establish a Prisons Board with responsibility for the day-to-day running of our prisons. [7983/95]

I propose to take Questions Nos. 136 and 138 together.

I am carrying out an examination of options in relation to the future management of offenders generally. The question of establishing a Prisons Board and a Parole Board is included in this examination. I will bring my conclusions before the Government when my examination is completed. It would, of course, be inappropriate in advance of their submission to Government to make a statement about any proposals I may be considering.
