Vol. 452 No. 3

Written Answers. - Road Passenger Service Licences.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

159 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the present position regarding the application by a company (details supplied) for an extended licence to carry passengers in the Dundalk area; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7841/95]

The company in question holds several licences in respect of the provision of road passenger services in the Dundalk area. In recent years, the company has made a number of applications for new licences or extensions to licences already held, and it was possible to accede to some of these requests.

In considering an application for a licence under the Road Transport Act 1932, my Department is required to have regard to the extent of existing forms of passenger transport on or in the neighbourhood of the route of the proposed service. Consequently, it was not possible to grant all of the extensions sought by the company in view of the level of services operated by Bus Éireann in the Dundalk area.

If the company wishes to clarify its current requirements it should submit its proposals for consideration by my Department.
