Vol. 452 No. 3

Written Answers. - Whiddy Island Oil Terminal.

Peter Barry

Ceist:

160 Mr. Barry asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications the fuel stocks which are being held in Whiddy, Bantry Bay, County Cork; the total capacity of the plant; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [8045/95]

The information sought by the Deputy is as follows:

(a) the total fuel stocks held at Whiddy Island Oil Terminal as of 28 April 1995 comprised 205,000 metric tonnes of crude oil and 14,200 tonnes of gasoil;
(b) the total capacity of the terminal is 1 million metric tonnes of crude oil and 30,000 metric tonnes of oil products.
The oil stocks held at the terminal can contribute to Ireland's strategic oil reserves. The recently announced plans to reactivate the terminal through the installation of a single point mooring will allow the terminal to continue to play this vital role.
