Vol. 452 No. 8

Written Answers. - Cost of Elections.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

91 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Finance the total cost of administering the special voters system and the postal voting system in the 1992 General Election and the 1994 European election. [8880/95]

In the 1992 General Election the total cost of administering the special voters' system was approximately £3,200 and the total cost of administering the postal voting system was approximately £4,500. Because a Referendum was held in conjucntion with this General Election, some of the costs were common costs and the figures attributed to the General Election are, of necessity, estimates.

In the 1994 European Election, based on figures to hand, the cost of administering the special voters system was £4,329 and the total cost of administering the postal voting system was £5,311. Figures have not yet been received from three local returning officers and my Department has asked them to expedite same.
