Vol. 455 No. 3

Written Answers - Loughrea (Galway) School.

Michael P. Kitt

Ceist:

92 Mr. M. Kitt asked the Minister for Education when a resource teacher will be appointed to a school (details supplied) in County Galway. [12076/95]

The role of the resource teacher is to act in support of ordinary teaching staff in dealing with children with disabilities attending ordinary classes.

I recently allocated an additional ten resource teacher posts to primary schools. This brings the total of such posts allocated to the primary school sector to 36. These posts were allocated on the basis of priority of need following the collection of data by my Department's Primary Inspectorate.

The needs of the school in question will be considered in the context of any further resource teacher allocation which may be undertaken.
