Vol. 459 No. 6

Request to move Adjourment of Dáil under Standing Order 30.

Before coming to the Order of Business I propose to deal with a Notice of Motion under Standing Order 30 from Deputy O'Keeffe. I call on him to announce the matter of which he has given notice.

I am raising a matter which is of national rather than local importance. I request the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry, Deputy Yates, to take immediate steps to have the wild boar herd recently imported into this country urgently tested for all known exotic swine diseases, particularly diseases such as Teschen disease and trichinella which are prevalent in eastern bloc countries, namely Hungary, Poland, the Czech Republic and Slovakia. There could be a serious national problem for the Minister's Department because of the lack of discipline. The Minister should advise his veterinary section to be vigilant at ports of entry for imported stock as it is known that no veterinary inspector would have been present in Rosslare on Wednesday last, 6 December, at 6 p.m. when the imported stock in question arrived by ferry. If the Department had not been alerted——

Thank you, Deputy O'Keeffe, I can only hear the text you have submitted to the Ceann Comhairle's office. The matter, having been fully considered, it is not considered to be one contemplated by the Standing Order.

Leave cannot, therefore, be granted to the motion.
