Vol. 459 No. 6

Written Answers. - Dublin Transportation Committee.

Ivor Callely

Ceist:

99 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for the Environment the number of public servants appointed to the Dublin Transportation Steering Committee; the number of consumers appointed; the number of nominees from the national transport organisations appointed; the date on which the chairman and members were appointed; the date on which they were informed of their appointments; the role he sees for this committee vis-à-vis his Department, the National Roads Authority, local authorities and existing statutory transport authorities and agencies; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [18502/95]

The composition of the steering committee of the Dublin Transportation Office, and the role and functions of the committee and of the office, are provided for in the Dublin Transportation Office (Establishment) Order, 1995, a copy of which was sent to each member of each House of the Oireachtas and which is also available in the Oireachtas Library. The Chairperson and members of the committee were appointed for terms of three years from 9 November 1995 and were formally notified of their appointments on that date.

The background to the establishment of the committee, and the manner in which it is expected to function, is dealt with in some detail in statements issued by me on August 1 and November 9; I am arranging to have copies of these placed in the Oireachtas Library.

Arrangements are in hand for the appointment of the Local Authority Committee and the Consultative Panel which are also provided for in the Establishment Order.
