Vol. 459 No. 8

Written Answers. - Water Scheme.

Michael Smith

Ceist:

96 Mr. M. Smith asked the Minister for the Environment when he will approve an integrated plan for the River Suir water scheme. [19094/95]

An application for Cohesion Fund assistance has been submitted to the European Commission in respect of the River Suir catchment water quality management scheme; this comprises six sewerage schemes, five water schemes, a management system for the catchment area and planning work on future sludge treatment and disposal in the catchment.

A number of projects covered by the scheme have already been advanced. The Templemore water supply scheme and a scheme to provide reservoirs for Tipperary town have been approved to go to construction. Contract documents have been approved for Thurles water scheme, stage 1, Galtee water scheme and Chair sewerage scheme, stage 2. I have also recently approved a preliminary report for stage 3 of the Cashel sewerage scheme.
I cannot say when it may be possible to approve the remaining projects included in the overall scheme.
