Vol. 460 No. 7

Written Answers - EU Urban Initiative.

Seán Kenny

Ceist:

63 Mr. S. Kenny asked the Taoiseach the funds, if any, that will be made available from the European Commission, under the EU Urban Initiative, for the Darndale/Belcamp area, Dublin 17; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [2129/96]

URBAN is a European Community Initiative and the areas where it is to apply require the agreement of the European Commission. Agreement was reached with the European Commission that URBAN would apply in Cork and Dublin. In Cork the area is to be the northside of the city and in Dublin the areas are West Tallaght-Clondalkin and Finglas-Ballymun-Darndale. The funding in the case of the latter area is to be concentrated on Ballymun, but it has been agreed that Finglas and Darndale will be given priority for further funding which the Commission have indicated will be forthcoming. The allocation of this funding will be considered by the Government in due course, when details of the Commissions proposals are available.
