Vol. 460 No. 7

Written Answers - Telecom Éireann Strategic Alliance.

Thomas P. Broughan

Ceist:

114 Mr. Broughan asked the Minister for Transport, Energy and Communications when a decision will be made in the strategic alliance for Telecom Éireann and on his current thinking regarding Telecom Éireann's likely partner. [2158/96]

The process of selecting a suitable partner for Telecom Éireann is now well under way. Earlier this month an information memorandum was issued to all potential partners. It is envisaged that the process of selecting a partner will be completed by the end of the summer this year.

The successful partner will be chosen on its ability to help transform Telecom Éireann into a successful operator in a competitive market. This is the primary purpose of an equity-based alliance between Telecom Éireann and a suitable partner.

The eventual winner will be chosen following a two-stage tendering and evaluation process. The Government will be assisted through the process by a consortium of international advisers.
