Vol. 463 No. 3

Written Answers. - Employment Appeal Tribunal Case.

Dermot Ahern

Ceist:

332 Mr. D. Ahern asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the current position regarding the case under Minimum Notice and Terms of Employments Acts and Redundancy Payment Acts taken by former employees of Dundalk Textiles Ltd., County Louth, against Dundalk Textiles and others, case number M 144/94 which was heard at the Employment Appeals Tribunal, whose decision was subsequently appealed by the respondents to the High Court on several points of law; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [6255/96]

I confirm that solicitors, acting for the respondent company in this case, have indicated to my Department that an appeal against the decisions of the Employment Appeals Tribunal on various questions of law has been lodged with the High Court. I understand that the appeal is listed for hearing in May next.

Given that the matter has been referred to the High Court I consider that it would be inappropriate for me to comment further at this time.
