Vol. 464 No. 3

Written Answers. - Kilrush (Clare) Community School.

Tony Killeen

Ceist:

91 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education when tender documents will be approved for Kilrush Community School, County Clare. [8093/96]

Provision for the building project at Kilrush Community School has been made in the 1996 capital programme, and it is intended that construction will commence during the course of the year.

The post primary building unit's technical staff have recently completed their examination of stage 2 documentation (outline sketch scheme) for the project, and subsequently, revised schedules of accommodation have issued to the school authorities for their acceptance/observations.

Following the school's acceptance of the revised schedules of accommodation, approval to proceed to stage 3 (developed sketch scheme) will be granted. There are two further stages which the project must go through before tender documents can be approved. However, I assure the Deputy that every effort will be made to proceed to tender stage as quickly as possible.

Ceist:

92 Mr. Killeen asked the Minister for Education the plans, if any, she has to sanction the appointment of a permanent teacher of woodwork/technical graphics at Kilrush Community School, County Clare. [8094/96]

It is the current policy of my Department that up to 90 per cent of the teacher allocation in a community school, as determined by the enrolments and having regard to the approved ex-quota posts, may be filled in a permanent capacity.

In the case of Kilrush Community School the position is that the number of permanent teachers currently on the staff exceeds 90 per cent of the teacher allocation for the 1996-97 school year. In the circumstances I am not in a position to sanction any additional permanent appointments in Kilrush Community School at this time.
