Ceist:

73 Mr. Sargent asked the Minister for the Environment the number and the nature of the various grant schemes which he has approved in respect of his Department and its subordinate agencies; the schedule for these schemes; the objective of each such scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [7932/96]

Information on grant schemes introduced since December 1994 is set out in the following table in so far as my Department is concerned.

Any grant schemes operated by subordinate agencies would be matters for the agencies themselves.

Schemes

Objective

Roads Restoration Programme

To assist local authorities to restore non-national roads to a satisfactory condition (first full year of 10 year programme).

Extension to local authority houses

To enable local authorities to provide extensions to dwellings occupied by applicants on the local authority housing waiting list.

Housing management initiatives

To assist local authorities in carrying out pilot projects on housing management.

Care of local archives

To assist local authorities meet their obligations in relation to records/archives

Environmental Research and Development (EU co-financed and administered by the Environmental Protection Agency)

To promote environmentally sustainable resource management and cleaner production

Ireland/Wales Maritime INTERREG II Programme

To develop the road network to/from the principal population and economic centres to certain key commercial seaports and airports

Ireland and Northern Ireland INTERREG II Programme

To improve cross-Border transport and environmental infrastructure

EU Peace Process Initiative

To assist urban and rural regeneration in the Border counties To improve cross-Border transport infrastructure.

Waste Recycling Grants (EU co- financed)

To assist development of recycling and recovery infrastructure.
