Vol. 465 No. 3

Written Answers. - Trim (Meath) Water Scheme.

Mary Harney

Ceist:

129 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment if his attention has been drawn to the concerns of the residents of Trim, County Meath in respect of the proposals by Meath County Council to take the water for the drinking water supply from less than one mile below the town's sewage discharge; his views on whether this will have damaging consequences for public health in the area; the discussions, if any, he has had with the residents or the Minister for Health in relation to the location of the water scheme; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [9636/96]

I am aware of the concerns referred to. In approving the contract documents for the proposed Trim sewerage improvement scheme, I have instructed Meath County Council to extend the outfall pipe to a suitable point downstream of the new water intake point.
