84 Miss Harney asked the Minister for the Environment the reason elderly persons occupying one bedroom local authority dwellings are excluded from purchasing their homes by South Dublin County Council in view of the fact that Dublin Corporation has sold similar dwellings to its tenants; and if he will make a statement on the matter. The administration of the tenant purchase scheme in their areas is a matter for local authorities. The terms of the scheme, as notified to authorities and given effect by the Housing (Sale of Houses) Regulations, 1995, preclude the sale of houses specifically designed for, and occupied by, elderly persons in order to retain these houses to meet the accommodation needs of such persons.
