Vol. 467 No. 1

Written Answers. - Garda Numbers in Bridewell (Dublin) District.

Tony Gregory

Ceist:

261 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Justice the number of gardaí currently in the Bridewell Garda Station District, Dublin 7; the comparative number in December 1995; and the number of gardaí available for foot patrol in this district. [12607/96]

The Garda authorities are responsible for the allocation of Garda personnel to individual areas. They have informed me that there are 141 members attached to the Bridewell Garda station. The comparative figure for December 1995 is 148.

On the grounds of security and crime prevention generally I am not in a position to provide the Deputy with the detailed information regarding foot patrols. However, I can say that the Bridewell district is patrolled on an ongoing basis by uniformed and plain clothes foot and mobile patrols. This patrolling is augmented by regular patrols by both the divisional task force unit and the divisional drugs unit. The district is also patrolled by the various specialist units operating within the Dublin Metropolitan Area.
