Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Future of Wellman Plant.

Mary Wallace

Ceist:

183 Miss M. Wallace asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment if his attention has been drawn to the grave concern felt in counties Meath and Cavan regarding the future of Wellman International Limited; the action, if any, he has undertaken to ensure that this business remains open; and the action, if any, he will commit to immediately undertake in this regard. [17978/96]

I am aware of the concern, referred to by the Deputy. I recently expressed grave concern about the prospects of Wellman International Limited over reopening because of the industrial dispute at the plant. I stressed that the responsibility for resolving the industrial dispute rested with the parties.

I am pleased to inform the Deputy that the industrial dispute, which had stopped production, has now been resolved, and production at the plant is to recommence this week.
