Vol. 469 No. 6

Written Answers. - Tender Procedure for Transport.

Máire Geoghegan-Quinn

Ceist:

184 Mrs. Geoghegan-Quinn asked the Minister for Enterprise and Employment the number of transport companies invited to tender for the provision of transport services during EU ministerial visits and meetings; the name of each company; whether bus, taxi, hackney or limousine service companies were employed to provide such services, which did not have to go through a tender procedure; and if he will make a statement on the matter. [17981/96]

There has been one informal meeting of EU Ministers held under the auspices of my Department, i.e. an informal meeting of Ministers for Labour Affairs on 11 and 12 July 1996. The transport services used in relation to this ministerial meeting included a limousine and car service, and a coach service.

The following companies were asked to tender for these transport services; Murrays Car Rental, Breslin Car Hire, Staffords Car Hire Service, The Limousine Company, Bus Éireann and Éirebus Ltd.
In addition, where the need arose, taxi services were used. These were provided by the two taxi companies with whom my Department has an account, i.e. National Radio Cabs and Black Cabs.
