140 Mr. Callely asked the Minister for Agriculture, Food and Forestry the proposals, if any, he has to encourage development in 1997 of the small milk producer who demonstrates a real commitment to milk production; the likely incentives for such production; and if he will make a statement on the matter. Under the milk quota temporary leasing and restructuring schemes priority is given to smaller scale producers. It is my intention that such producers will continue to have priority under next year's schemes.

I have arranged a meeting of the Milk Quota Review Group for early January to discuss the detailed operation of the 1997-98 schemes. I will consider fully the recommendations of the group in this area.
