Vol. 475 No. 3

Adjournment Debate Matters.

An Leas-Cheann Comhairle

I wish to advise the House of the following matters in respect of which notice has been given under Standing Order 21 and the name of the Member in each case: (1) Deputy Gallagher (Laoighis-Offaly) — the urgent need to provide a new Garda station for Tullamore, County Offaly, in view of the risk to the health and safety of the Garda Síochána and the public arising from the condition of the existing station; (2) Deputy Flaherty — the urgent need to resolve the industrial relations problems in the Department of Education in light of the cancellation of the applied leaving certificate assessments which affected 3,000 students; (3) Deputy Shortall — the need to put the home help service on a proper footing to ensure standardisation of service and rates of pay; (4) Deputy Ellis — the provision of sewerage schemes for Jamestown, Drumsna, County Leitrim and Roosky, County Roscommon, in view of his reply to recent parliamentary questions; (5) Deputy de Valera — the crisis facing many primary schools in County Clare due to the non-availability of capital funding and the need to outline the primary schools in the county which will be included in the next capital building programme; (6) Deputy Seán Ryan — the effects of phasing out duty free shopping in 1999 and the need for the Government to reactivate this issue within the EU; and (7) Deputy Power — the difficulties being experienced by students currently attending neighbouring rural primary schools in gaining admittance to secondary schools in Naas, County Kildare.

The matters raised by Deputies Ellis, de Valera, Power and Gallagher have been selected for discussion.
