334 Mr. Gregory asked the Minister for Education if his Department or Cospóir received a request from the Irish Petanque Association for recognition; and his response, if any, in view of the fact that the group is representing Ireland in the World Championship 1997. [13802/97]
I can confirm that my Department and Cospóir received an application in 1993 from the Irish Petanque Association for recognition as a National Governing Body of Sport. The application was considered by Cospóir but no final decision was taken on the matter at the time. However, my Department and the Irish Sports Council will be pleased to reconsider an application from the Irish Petanque Association.
